2010 Analysis
Steelers pull out the
victory in overtime
Week 1
Starting quarterback Dennis Dixon had a
solid game in filling in for Big Ben as
he threw for 236 yards. His only mishap
was an interception in a 15-9 overtime victory
over the Atlanta Falcons. Running back Rahard
Mendenhall had the game winning touchdown
in overtime with a 50 yard run. Overall
he had a great day rushing for 120 yards
on 22 carries. The offense is not explosive
at all and everyone knows that it will probably
be that way until Big Ben comes back from
his suspension. The defense manhandled the
high flying Falcons offense all day. Quarterback
Matt Ryan threw for 252 yards and one interception
while running back Michael Turner rushed
for 42 yards on 19 carries. Overall the
Steelers gave up under 300 yards of total
offense and sacked Ryan two times. It is
quite impressive the way the Steelers have
limited the Falcons with Dick Labeau's zone
blitz 3-4 defense.

Defense causes Vince Young to be benched
Week 2
The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Tennessee
Titans by a final score of 19-11 behind
a steel curtain defense that wreaked absolute
havoc all day. The defense forced seven
turnovers total - four fumbles and three
interceptions. They registered four sacks
total, gave up 192 yards threw the air,
and limited rushing to only 46 yards. The
best running back in the league, Chris Johnson,
rushed for only 34 yards rushing. The total
yards given up by the defense was only 238.
Starting quarterback Vince Young was benched
in favor of Kerry Collins as well. The linebacking
core played exceptionally well registering
34 tackles and multiple sacks. The Steelers
are 2-0 going into Tampa and figure to be
3-0. Many people thought their record would
be at best 2-2 going into the bye week.

Domination In Tampa Bay
Week 3
The Pittsburgh Steelers went into Tampa Bay and absolutely dominated the
Buccaneers on route to a 38-13 victory.
Charlie Batch had a solid game with a line
of 12-17 for 186 yards - three touchdowns
and two interceptions. It didn’t start
of great, as he threw a pick on the Steelers
opening drive,- two series later he got
the offense moving up the field as he hooked
up with Mike Wallace on a 46 yard touchdown.
After Charlie Batch got into the groove
Rashard Mendenhall heated up in the second
half. Mendenhall finished with 143 yards
rushing on only 19 carries and a touchdown.
The leading wide receiver for the game was
Mike Wallace with 100 yard receiving on
three receptions with two touchdowns. The
defense wreaked havoc all da y scoring a
touchdown, sacking Bucs quarterback Josh
Freemen four times, and causing two fumbles.
The Bucs barely had 300 yards of total offense
and that was mostly in garbage time after
the game was decided. Next up on the schedule
is an important game against rival Baltimore
Ravens at home!

Tough Loss At Home To Baltimore ruins
perfect record
Week 4
The Pittsburgh Steelers were one minute
away from defeating the Baltimore Ravens
before going into the bye week undefeated.
Raven quarterback Joe Flacco showed poise
when faced with the pressure and formations
from the Steelers in throwing a touchdown
strike to TJ Houshmanzadeh to take a 17-14
lead that would ultimately be the final
score. The game went back and forth with
Pittsburgh taking a 14-10 lead earlier in
the fourth quarter. The Steelers stopped
the Ravens inside the five-yard line on
a fourth down in the red zone in an earlier
possession but were up unable to muster
any yards and failed to convert a single
first down. The Steelers had to punt the
ball away and the Ravens received good field
position inside the 50-yard line with about
one minute left. Flacco completed multiple
passes and the final scoring strike went
for 18 yards with 32 seconds left. The Steelers
should feel good about themselves going
into the bye week with a 3-1 record. Ben
Roethlisberger will be coming back so the
offense should be able to open up.

Big Ben back to old form in debut
Week 6
Ben Roethlisberger came back to the Pittsburgh
Steelers in fine form in his 2010 debut
as his team beat the Cleveland Browns 28-10.
Roethlisberger completed 16 of 27 passes
for 257 yards. He passed for 3 touchdowns
and had 1 interception. His touchdown targets
included Mike Wallace, Hines Ward, and Heath
Miller. Overall it was a solid game and
a much needed injection of life into the
Pittsburgh passing game. With Baltimore
losing to New England the Steelers now have
position of first place in the AFC North.
Next up is the first of three tough games.
The Miami Dolphins will be waiting in South
Florida.
