Last season the Steelers once again defeated
the Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets in
the playoffs on route to another Super Bowl
appearance. Unfortunately the Green Bay
Packers prevented Pittsburgh from adding
to their record sixth league championship.
Overall there a lot of uncertainty going
in to the season due to the four game suspension
of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. After
a disappointing 2009 season the Steelers
were looking to get to into the postseason
for a deep run. Roethlisberger had an excellent
season last year passing for 3200 yards
with 17 touchdowns and only 5 interceptions.
With a completion percentage of 61.7% and
a sparkling quarterback rating of 97.0 he
was one of the top signal caller in the
league even though he was ignored by many
pundits. Running back Rashard Mendenhall
was the main workhorse even more so than
in 2009. With an offensive game plan that
placed a bigger emphasis on the running
game Mendenhall had 324 rushing attempts
for an average of 3.9 yards per carry. He
tallied over 1200 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns.
Receiver Mike Wallace had a breakout season
as one of the best big play receivers in
the league. His yards per reception of 21
led the AFC. With over 1200 yards receiving,
60 receptions, and 10 touchdowns Wallace
had a spectacular season replacing Santonio
Holmes as the #2 wideout. Collectively Hines
Ward, Heath Miller, and Emmanuel Sanders
had solid seasons also. Check out all the
explosive weapons on offense by purchasing
Pittsburgh Steelers tickets for any home
or road game. The defense was led by Troy
Polamalu, LaMarr Woodley, and James Harrison.
Harrison had another great season with 100
tackles and 10 sacks. Woodley had 50 tackles
and 10 sacks also. Polamalu was more healthy
last season than in 2009 and had 63 tackles,
7 interceptions, and 1 touchdown. Polamalu
and Woodley teamed up for one of the biggest
plays in the season. Late in the fourth
quarter down 10-6 on the road against the
Ravens Polamalu came free on a blitz, sacked,
and forced a fumble of quarterback Joe Flacco
at the 43 yard line of Baltimore. Woodley
recovered the fumble at the Baltimore 28
yard line and rumbled another 19 yards to
setup the game winning touchdown for a commanding
lead in the AFC North division. It was one
of the more spectacular plays of the NFL
season and propelled the Steelers into the
postseason where they once again came back
from a deficit and defeated the Ravens at
home. This season the division race will
be between Pittsburgh and Baltimore once
again so get your Steelers tickets to see
the hard fought games live. The Steelers
will once again be one of the top tier teams
in the AFC in the 2011 season. The continuity
and leadership is an advantage the club
has over other teams considering the off-season
instability because of the lockout. Since
the front office is very meticulous and
exact when evaluating talent the organization
is run very smoothly with Kevin Colbert.
With another solid draft class Pittsburgh
will be the favorite to win the division
once again and challenge for the Super Bowl.
So come out the Heinz field and get your
Pittsburgh Steelers tickets to see one of
the most popular clubs in the NFL. With
many great match ups this 2011 season will
be quite exciting.
